Local Flavours 2017 – Celebrating 5 successful years

The date for the 5th Local Flavours show has been announced – Wednesday 27th September at the Norfolk Showground Arena.

Launched in 2012 in a farmyard just off the A47, Local Flavours was set up to serve the growing business sector of food and drink producers in the Eastern region. To date local producers have acquired new customers and contracts worth tens of thousands of pounds, from meeting food buyers from catering, hospitality, food retail and tourism backgrounds.

The event moved after year one to the Norfolk Showground arena, as it quickly became apparent there was real support and encouragement from both the industry and many district and county councils. Since then the event has grown four-fold to accommodate over 100 producers, business support services, training and apprenticeship support and much more.

Adding value annually to the event has kept it fresh and encouraged loyalty from regular stand holder bookings as well as attracted new ones – and from across East Anglia. An important aspect of this is the strict entry criteria. Free to attend but only if the person has food and drink buying responsibilities.
The event has gained recognition from the likes of DEFRA and at past events, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has attended and opened the show. Other organisations such as the RNAA, Anglia Farmers, Norfolk County Council, district councils including – West Suffolk, Breckland, North Norfolk, Broadland, Norwich City and South Norfolk have also been supportive as sponsors. The guest line-up will be announced nearer the time.

Commercial sponsorship support has made a big difference to the expansion and introduction of new themed areas at the show. Shire Foods of Norfolk and Foodcare have helped the organisers to develop new zones including a workshop and demonstration area, to support the producers and most importantly to encourage visitors.

The show has always been about making connections and growing a producer’s business. In 2016, the Flavours team introduced 1-2-1 “Meet the Buyer” slots in a more formal setting. This proved incredibly popular and encouraged the likes of Tesco, Center Parcs, Morrisons, Makro and many other national brands to join numerous local buyers in a more private setting, giving producers booked in the opportunity to pitch in a more comfortable setting than a large head office environment in somewhere like the city.

The 2017 celebratory year is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. Over half the trade stands are already booked in and lines are now open to book tickets to attend.
